As with all shows of this nature, there was a large number of camper van conversions on display. An excellent base for many adventurers these converted vans are always a fan favourite at outdoor expos.
For many years the undisputed king of campervans has been the VW Transporter. Let’s face it, if you pull up in any beach, cycle track, activity centre or ski resort car park there will be several Transporters there at all times.
This year’s show had some fantastic T6 conversions on display from a wide range of manufacturers, but Rolling Homes have to take top prize for pushing what can (or perhaps what should) be done when converting a van.
The ‘Edition 10’ is valued at over £100,000 (they stopped counting once £110k was crossed!) and celebrates the companies 10th anniversary. With an exotic wooden interior, plush leather seats, bespoke body kit and £4,500 worth of wheels, every option box has been checked on this model!
Although VW is still currently the dominant force in the world of conversions they aren’t without competition, the Ford Transit Custom is
With numerous marquees such as Danbury backing the Transit there was no shortage of Ford based examples on display. While the VW wins on heritage the Transit does match and even exceed the Transporter in other areas.
Visually, I have to admit I prefer the current Transit Custom to the T6 and Fords offering feels more modern on the inside, while also being marginally bigger.
Critically the new Transit is also well received with many praising its car-like handling. It is great to see more major car manufacturers taking this market seriously as competition can only help increase the quality of products on the market!
So Much more!
As anyone who went will tell you the show is colossal, we covered over 10km walking the entire exhibition. Amongst the numerous campers and caravans there was also plenty of interactive stands.
From cycling rigs that challenged you against virtual competition, to ice skating, Bear Gryll’s activity challenges, talks from a wide range of experts and celebrities, more freebies than you can carry in a single free bag and a dog show!
Overall it was another fantastic exhibition at the NEC, if like us, you love being outdoors, holidaying and trying new activities be sure to attend next year’s show!
