Italian Dominik Paris won the second gold medal of Åre 2019 on an incredibly technical Men’s Super-G course. With 21 of the athletes not completing the course, either through DNF or disqualification, getting to the finish line proved tricky.
The Kanonröret section of the course proved to make or break many runs with little difference in time seem between the top 10 on the rest of the run. A sublime performance from Paris, who excelled through Kanonröret ensured he took top spot on the podium.
Unusually it was an absolute dead-heat for second place, so honours were shared between Austria’s Vincent Kriechmayr and France’s Johan Clarey. Similarly, eighth place was shared by no less than three athletes.
Crowd attendance was visible up from day 1, perhaps helped by the 10 degree climb in temperature, and those in attendance were rewarded with an incredibly well designed course. With numerous jumping sections, many close to or on bends it provided numerous exciting moments as competitors battled to keep the skis betwen the gates!
- PARIS Dominik (ITA) – 1:24.20
- CLAREY Johan (FRA) – 1:24.29
- KRIECHMAYR Vincent (AUT) – 1:24.29
There is a one day break but Åre 2019 returns on Friday with the women’s downhill and slalom.
